Senior Analyst
REMOTE (US/CANADA) | FULL-TIME | REPORTS TO CHIEF CLIENT OFFICER
Brightlines protects people from real-world harm caused by online exposure. Our clients are journalists, elected officials, researchers, activists, executives, and others whose work puts them in the crosshairs. We help them stay safe so they can keep doing their important work.
We do that by combining human-led investigative research with proprietary tooling: searching databases for personal identifying information, analyzing what actually poses a risk, processing takedowns, and predicting future exposure before it becomes a problem. The work is precise, consequential, and deeply meaningful to us.
In this role, your analysis, and ultimately your judgement, provide the backbone of our support to clients. You are the person we rely on when the picture is incomplete, the stakes are high, and the answer has to be right. You will arrive at this role with depth of experience – you’ve already built your instincts. Your thinking is load-bearing: the quality of what you produce is what our client relationships rest on.
You take disparate data points—online signals, behavioral patterns, open-source intelligence—and turn them into coherent risk narratives that help clients understand not just what exists, but what actually matters. When a client receives something from Brightlines, the quality of your analysis is what makes it worth sending. That’s the weight this role carries, and the reason we’re looking for someone who takes it seriously.
What Brightlines will do for you
Give you work that is genuinely important and hard to find elsewhere. The people you’re protecting are doing things that matter—and so are you.
Give you direct visibility into how your analysis shapes client outcomes and company direction.
Surround you with a small but mighty, fun and supportive team that is passionate about privacy and security for all folks.
Give you plenty of room to run. If you see a better way to approach a problem, you’ll have the space and support to make the case and test it.
Offer meaningful, foundational work from day one—with increasing depth and access to sensitive client work as you ramp up.
Offer competitive compensation.
Support flexible, remote work.
What you’ll do for Brightlines
Search across public records, data brokers, photo sources, directories, and more—to surface personal identifying information that puts clients at risk.
Analyze what you find and prioritize it: not everything is a threat, and knowing the difference is most of the job.
Select individually-appropriate, actionable risk assessments that help clients understand their situation and what to do about it—without overwhelming them.
Process takedowns: opt-outs, image removals, data broker scrubs, and the harder-to-reach removals that require human persistence to see through.
Use OSINT techniques and investigative instincts to find what automated tools miss.
Identify patterns in future exposure risk and flag them proactively, before clients are blindsided.
Handle sensitive data and high-stakes client situations with care, discretion, and sound judgment.
Maintain methodical rigor under urgency. The work doesn’t slow down when stressful.
Raise the quality of the service for every client we serve. Contribute to continuous improvement by sharing feedback on methodologies, processes, and product features with the analyst team and product manager.
What you should bring with you
5–8+ years of hands-on investigative or analytical experience: OSINT, threat intelligence, fraud investigation, trust & safety, or closely adjacent fields.
Deep comfort operating with incomplete or ambiguous information—and the judgment to form sound, defensible conclusions anyway.
A genuinely human-centered approach to privacy and security. You understand that individuals must be active participants in their own safety and that they may make choices that don't align with your recommendations or your personal values. You meet them where they are, without judgment, and continue to show up for them regardless.
Exceptional attention to detail paired with the ability to zoom out and identify what actually matters.
Experience assessing real-world risk—not just cataloging what exists, but evaluating what it means and what to do about it.
Calm and methodical under pressure. You’ve done hard things in tight timeframes and know how to stay grounded.
Comfort with constant change. The threat landscape shifts, geopolitical situations evolve overnight, and as an early-stage company our own processes and standards change as we learn. You stay oriented and effective regardless.
Strong written communication: you can translate complex findings into clear, actionable narratives for clients who aren’t steeped in this work the way you are.
The ability to move fluidly between qualitative and quantitative evidence without losing the thread.
Genuine care for the people behind the data. Our clients are real people in real situations—you treat them that way.
Humility and heart. We take this work seriously because it matters. We’d like you to feel the same way.
